The Mirage 4000 was a prototype fighter developed by the French aircraft manufacturer Dassault in the late 1970s for the large fighter market. The F-14 and F-15 were its sales rivals, and were considered to be expensive from the start of their development. The twin-engined aircraft was based on the Mirage 2000, and it had a bubble canopy and canard wing. The empty weight was increased by 74% compared to the Mirage 2000, it had a total of 11 hard points, and it carried 2.5 times the payload. It used fly-by-wire technology, and it was thought that its high performance and new technology would make it desirable for export and domestic use.
